Who we are …
We are Anke & Ed! In 2009 we bought this farm and we started to start with a total renovation of the building that had been seriously torn down over the years.
First we made sure that we ourselves could live comfortably and the stables and the barn were refurbished again.
Then we moved from Flanders, which made the renovation easier, even though we had to camp for a while.
At the time that our part was largely in order we have completely converted the main house into the four rooms that the current B & B now counts.
Now that the renovations are behind us, the (hobby) farm is flourishing.
Summer and winter we place peace and quiet in the center and we hope that in the morning you will only be awakened by the whistling birds, or by a cow who is laughing in the distance.
We have opted for an energy-efficient building for the entire B & B.
We have a big heart for people, nature and animals and hope that we will soon be able to welcome you and are happy to help you or to answer your questions!

Wij vroeger ook, alleen zijn we in de Condroz blijven hangen. Nu zijn we de koning te rijk in deze charmante vierkantshoeve. Anke en Ed heten u van harte welkom in deze mooie regio met 4 charmevolle chambres d’hôtes, een 2de thuis voor even.
Onze b&b bevindt zich in het dorpje Vierset-Barse (Modave), tussen Huy (Hoei) en Durbuy. Kom genieten van de authentieke landelijke sfeer van weleer.
De natuur heeft hier de bovenhand. De Condroz, ook wel “la petite Loire belge” genoemd, is nog niet ontdekt door het grote publiek.
Since 2020, we have proudly been awarded the Green Key certificate for sustainable tourism.

An active hobby farm
What makes us special? We are hobby farmers keeping various animals – horses, sheep, a donkey, rabbits, a little cow, dogs, cats, … and that brings life to the brewery. You can take a trip with a horse and carriage, and you can even bring your own horse.
Culturally and historically, there is plenty to do in the neighbourhood.
Walking? Naturally!
Cycling? That is certainly possible if you have put in some training or if you have an electric bike to tackle the uphill stretches.
Motards? The well-known winding Vallée de la Hoyoux between Modave and Huy is only 2 kilometres from the 4 willows.
Our history
During the visit of the castle of Modave, we discovered a map of 1775 on which there were only castles, churches and chapels. And suddenly we saw that the main house of our farm was also there. Strange, because there was no other house or ordinary farm on it … The archivist of the castle of Modave discovered, after having researched, that on August 7, 1675, we speak of this building, then called “aux béguinnes” (the double n is not a typo, it is literally said). In other words, 350 years ago there was a small beguinage here. One hundred years later, in 1775, the region was mapped through the Ferraris maps. A copy of the “Plan de la Baronerie de Vierset” hangs in our living room. Here you can clearly see our farm.
For a long time our farm was the property (of the heirs) of the castle and the farm was rented out. It was not until 1980 that it was sold to independent farmers. And now we’ve bought this farm.
If the walls could talk, they would have a lot to say. We find that a lot of adjustments have been made over the years. Buildings have been added, we see remains of destruction by fire, roofs have been raised, arrangements have been modified, …
When we renovated the current kitchen, behind the doorstep we found a plank of wood with an inscription by the carpenter: “made March 8, 1863” It is only a piece of wood, but it looked like a little treasure. At the time, it needed a major renovation. The name of the good man is also there, but unfortunately we cannot read it.
The farm is registered, fortunately not classified, and is therefore in “Le patrimoine monumental Wallonie”. It means that we have to keep some things in their original state. Fortunately, we thought the same about it.
The advantage of being “only” registered is that the whole building is not protected. It is for this reason that we obtained the authorization to rebuild it into what it is today. With respect for the past, of course!
The Condroz
The Condroz is a region on the border of the Ardennes which stretches in the form of a narrow strip across the provinces of Liège, Namur and Hainaut. It consists of rolling hills, 200 to 300 meters high, where forests alternate with farmland and meadows.
The name comes from the “Condrusi” tribe who inhabited this region at the time of the Roman invasion.
Descriptive :
Formerly, there were seven bedrooms on the 1st floor. We have reconstructed the entire floor, creating four spacious rooms of equivalent standard. Today, the bedrooms are fitted with everything needed to relax completely. The rooms are named after our Flemish horses (the Belgians) and after Jérôme, our cute donkey with the cross of St André.
Wi-Fi is provided free throughout the house and on the terrace, with each room having an internet cable connection. The lounge has a 40″ flat-screen TV with USB access.
Each room has its own bathroom with walk-in shower, wash basin and toilet – this is of course to be expected today, although it could not always be taken for granted in older houses like this. Enjoy what is provided. Bathrooms feature towels, hairdryers and soap/shampoo.
Because we recognize the value of a good night’s sleep, all beds have a 160 cm-wide, pocket-sprung/box-sprung mattress and plenty of closet space is provided. The beds are of course already made for when our guests arrive.
A cot is available upon request. In Room ‘ Scala ‘ and Room ‘ Xel ‘ the couch can be converted into a comfortable bed (Scala 140 x 200 and Xel 160 x 200) to accommodate two children.
A lift is not available.

The nostalgic atmosphere, the room and the bathroom have a view of the inner courtyard.You will sleep in a stylish double bed with box spring mattress (160×200).
Scala
Lovely room with a view of the inner courtyard.The double bed (boxspring 160×200) can, on request, also be split into twin beds. There is also a sofa bed so that max. 2 children can sleep in the room (sofa bed 140×200).
Xel

Breakfast room – kitchenette
A good cup of coffee, fragrant tea, hot rolls, a glass of fresh orange juice, … is there a better way to start the day energetically?
Breakfast is included in the price.
The 150-year-old solid parquet floor gives a unique character to the room. The wooden beams on the ceiling have been restored to their original state, so that they now show their truly authentic character.
Dining together with family and/or friends? In the evening, it is always possible to prepare a little something in the kitchenette or order at a restaurant or a caterer (see arrangements) and each room has a separate table throughout your stay.
The kitchenette is equipped with common kitchen material, incl. combined microwave-oven, to own a small matter. Spices such as pepper and salt etc., oil, vinegar, sugar are present.
We ask you to clean up everything after using it, so there will be no inconvenience for the other guests and we can prepare breakfast in the morning.
In the common frigo is also the honesty bar serving a selection of drinks (soft drinks, beer and wine) for available at good rates. Coffee and tea are available free of charge.
There are also 2 highchairs for children.
The living room
Who is more enjoyable than having a good day. In the cozy living room you can chat warmly.
Tourist documentation, books, magazines and board games are at your disposal, we also have comics and some toys.
Drinks are always available in the honesty bar. Here there is also digital television.
The terrace
This sun terrace is completely at your disposal. Enjoy !
Things to do ??
Nature has the upper hand here. The Condroz, also known as “la petite Loire Belge”, has not yet been discovered by the general public. Sometimes we feel like we are in Austria, then in the Black Forest, the one time we see vast hills, a little later a landscape of scenery and water cascades.
Also, culturally and historically there is a lot to do in the neighbourhood. For this, you can easily click through to the page “the area”.

The area
Quite a few of those Condroz villages, built from the typical gray stone, are on the list of most beautiful villages in Wallonia, but there is still much more to discover. Get acquainted with the undulating plateaus, small forests and past castles and square farms that reflect the richness of agricultural yields.
